Coaches

Manager - David Verduzco

After becoming a California All-State high school baseball player, David had an outstanding pitching career at Yale University taking them to the NCAA Playoffs and pitched in the Detroit Tiger organization.


Daughter, Gina, was an All-State pitcher and hitter for 3 years at Portage Central.  She was a scholarship player at the University of Michigan, Dearborn where she was a 4-year All-Conference pitcher/hitter. Daughter Kim was a speed slapper and infielder at Portage Central and is currently a student at Michigan State. Son Michael just graduated from Portage Central where he was a two-year selection on the All-State Academic Baseball team.  He will attend Purdue University in the Fall.  Daughters Charla and Lily just completed a successful Machine Pitch season at SPLL where David managed the All-Star Team

Pitching and Hitting Instructor - Smiley Verduzco

Coach Smiley has been coaching baseball and softball for over 40 years. Smiley has coached each sport from youth leagues through high school. Smiley has also worked with college and minor league players. Growing up in California, Coach Smiley received his hitting instructions from Vince and Dominic DiMaggio, brothers of the great Joe DiMaggio. Coach Steve is his youngest son. His middle son, David, was an outstanding Division I pitcher at Yale, who was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and played in their Organization. Smiley's oldest son, Bob, played baseball, basketball and football in high school and was the starting quarterback at Yale in the late 80's.
