2022 9U Rebels Softball
Manager - Dave Stagray
Dave Stagray comes to the Michigan Rebels 9U softball team with 13 years of softball/baseball coaching experience. Dave’s daughter Olivia is just getting involved with softball. He has coached her Little League team at South Portage Little League for 2 years and was also a coach for her 8U travel season.
Prior to coaching softball with Olivia, Dave has coached baseball with his son Sam for a total of 12 years. He coached Sam at West Portage Little League starting with T-ball in 2008 and ending with Majors in 2017, and was a manager/coach for all-stars for 5 of those seasons winning the district 3 times and runner-up 2 times. Dave was team manager for Sam’s travel baseball team the West Michigan Wild for the 10U through 15U seasons. Sam is currently a player on the Portage Central Varsity baseball team.
Dave’s wife is Ayron and when they have free time from kid activities they like to be active with biking, hiking, and running.
Pitching and Hitting Instructor - Smiley Verduzco
Coach Smiley has been coaching baseball and softball for over 40 years. Smiley has coached each sport from youth leagues through high school. Smiley has also worked with college and minor league players. Growing up in California, Coach Smiley received his hitting instructions from Vince and Dominic DiMaggio, brothers of the great Joe DiMaggio. Coach Steve is his youngest son. His middle son, David, was an outstanding Division I pitcher at Yale, who was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and played in their organization. Smiley's oldest son, Bob, played baseball, basketball and football in high school and was the starting quarterback at Yale in the late 80's.
